If you live in the residence halls, a Be Secure brochure was included in the welcome packet you received from Residential Computing. You were also instructed to download the Be Secure software when you first connected to the Residential Computing network. This download bundles free security software from UC Berkeley, including anti-virus and firewall protection. You may view the Be Secure brochure at our Infocards site.

Be Secure Software Download

The Be Secure software is available for direct download from UC Berkeley's Software Central website. Click the corresponding link below to begin your download. In order to use Be Secure, your computer must have one of the following operating systems installed: Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS X 10.3 or higher.

Please note that the full Be Secure software package is only available for Windows PCs. Mac users can secure their computers with Norton Anti-virus and Personal Firewall.

For Windows Users:

Click here to download the latest version of Be Secure. Once downloaded, run the file and follow the on-screen instructions.

For Mac Users:

If you are using OS X Leopard or OS X Tiger, you can download Symantec Antivirus.
If you are using OS X Panther, you can download Norton Anti-virus and Personal Firewall.
