Sign-up For Your In-Room Connection!

Activating your In-Room Connection is a two-step process:

  1. You must attend your Cal Connect session with your Cal 1 Card or student ID number
  2. You must also register your computer with our system.

You can register before or after attending your Cal Connect session, but do not attempt to register before arriving on campus.

Your in-room connection will only be activated after you have completed both steps.

Residents at University Village (Albany), Manville, Channing-Bowditch apartments, Jackson House, and Clark Kerr faculty do not need to attend a Cal Connect workshop in order to activate their connections.

Registration Process

The following screens will guide you through the process of registering for your In-Room Connection. We do not recommend registering while on AirBears. You can register additional computers through the Online Helpdesk. You may register as many computers as necessary, however only one computer may be connected at any given time. If you wish to use multiple computers simultaneously, you may purchase a wired or wireless router.

Hardware Requirements

To connect to the network, you will need a computer with an Ethernet card or adapter installed. You will also need an Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector.

If you are completing the registration process from the Academic Services Center, from someone else's computer or over a wireless connection, you will need to know your device's Ethernet card address (MAC address). Please refer to our "Finding Your Ethernet Card Address" Infocard for assistance. This Infosheet is also included your welcome packet.

Software Requirements

To meet campus minimum security requirements, your computer must be running an operating system that is actively supported by the manufacturer. Older, non-supported operating systems like Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.X are not allowed on the network. For more information, visit our Be Secure page.

Your computer must be set to receive an IP address automatically. Please read our "Configuring Your Computer for DHCP" Infocard for simple instructions on how to do so.
