Get Connected: Internet Registration Process
Home Equipment Software Wireless Resources Register!1. Secure Your Computer
- All computers connected to the network must meet the campus minimum security requirements. We recommend you install the 2009 Be Secure software download in order to meet these standards. These security standards are listed inside the Be Secure insert that is included in the move-in welcome packet or on the Be Secure section of our site. If your computer does not meet these requirements, it may be blocked from the network.
- Your computer must be running an operating system that is actively supported by the manufacturer. Older, non-supported operating systems like Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.X are not allowed on the network. For more information, please visit our Be Secure page.
- Your computer must also be set to receive an IP address automatically. Please read our "Configuring Your Computer for DHCP" Infocard for simple instructions on how to do so.
2. Register Your In-Room Connection
To connect to the network, you will need a computer with an Ethernet adapter or card installed. You will also need an Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector. Turn on your computer and plug it into an available Ethernet port in your room with the Ethernet cable. Open your browser to begin the Internet registration process.
3. Don't Forget! Attend Your Cal Connect Session
Your in-room connection will only be activated after you have registered your computer and attended your Cal Connect Session. For a list of Cal Connect session times for your unit, click here.
Residents at University Village (Albany), Manville, Channing-Bowditch apartments, Jackson House, and Clark Kerr faculty do not need to attend a Cal Connect workshop in order to activate their connections.
