Get Connected

The internet awaits!
Welcome to the residence halls at UC Berkeley! Residential Computing will serve as the Internet and technical support provider for all students living in the halls and campus apartments. To activate your Internet connection, you will need to complete the steps below. Scroll down for more information about recommended hardware, software, and campus technology resources.
  1. Secure & Configure Your Computer

All computers and devices connected to the network must meet the campus minimum security standards. If your computer does not meet these requirements, it will be blocked from the network. We recommend you download and install ResComp's Be Secure software package during online registration in order to secure your computer.

Your computer must be running an operating system that is actively supported by the manufacturer. Older, non-supported operating systems like Windows 2000 and Mac OS 10.4 are not allowed on the network.

Your computer must also be set to receive an IP address automatically. Please read our DHCP article for simple instructions on how to double-check this setting.

  2. Register Online

To to our fast wired network, you will need an Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector. Just follow these steps:

First, Turn on your computer and plug it into an available Ethernet port in your room.

Wait ten minutes. Then open a web browser to be automatically directed to the registration page.

Note: You will need to log in with your CalNet ID and provide a valid email address and phone number.

  3. Attend a Cal Connect Session

ResComp will hold orientation sessions during move-in where our Residential Computing Consultants will give an overview of our services, answer your questions, and activate your in-room Internet connection. You will receive a schedule of Cal Connect sessions when you move in. You can also view the schedule online at your unit's support page.

If you live in University Village, you are not required to attend a Cal Connect session.
