Retrieving Your Game Console MAC Address

This article will take you through the necessary steps of registering your console with our network so you can enjoy the infinite possibilities of online gaming. Before we start, there's a very important fact you have to remember:

RESIDENTS CAN ONLY HAVE ONE DEVICE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AT A TIME!

This means you cannot be playing a game online with your console while simultaneously surfing Facebook on your computer. This can be easily resolved by purchasing a router and connecting your devices through it; but otherwise, only one device can be connected at a time.

There are two simple steps to connecting your console to the network:

  • Ensure the settings on the console are configured to work with our network
  • Register the device online
    1. Log in to the ResComp Helpdesk at rescomp.berkeley.edu.
    2. Under Registered Devices, click on Add a New Device.
    3. To register, you will need to enter the MAC address of your console.
    4. Step by step instructions for finding your MAC address are listed below.

Microsoft Xbox 360

  1. At the Xbox dashboard, go to the Systems area.
  2. Under System Settings, select Network Settings --> Configure Network.
  3. Make sure that under Basic Settings the IP address is set to automatic.
  4. Then select Additional Settings --> Advanced Settings
  5. At the bottom of the screen, record the Wired MAC Address.

Microsoft Xbox

  1. Turn on the Xbox with no disk in the tray.
  2. Under the Xbox Live option on the main menu, select Settings --> Network Settings.
  3. Select IP Address and confirm the configuration is set to automatic. Then go back to Network Settings and select DNS Servers to confirm that configuration is also set to automatic.
  4. Back at the Network Settings window, the MAC address is located at the bottom right corner.

Sony PlayStation 3

  1. Power up the PS3 without a disk.
  2. From the home screen, select Settings --> Network Settings
  3. When the Network Settings list appears, select Settings and Connection Status List.
  4. Scroll down the page and record the MAC address.

Sony PlayStation 2

  1. Turn on the PS2 console with the Network Adapter Startup Disk inserted.
  2. Once the disk has loaded, select ISP Setup.
  3. Agree to the license agreement that pops up.
  4. Choose Local Area Network (LAN) for your connection type.
  5. Select Automatic Configuration --> at the Connection Test screen select Advanced.
  6. You will now be at the Advanced Broadband Settings window. Ensure that Automatic is selected under DHCP hostname, and the MAC address is located at the bottom of the screen.

Nintendo Wii

  1. On the Wii Channel menu, select the round Wii button on the bottom left of the screen (the Wii Options button).
  2. Select Wii Settings --> scroll over a page and select Internet --> Console Information.
  3. The first line will be the MAC address.

  1. Remove the Broadband adapter from the Gamecube.
  2. The MAC address is printed on the underside of the adapter.
